KCCS President’s Report | Spring 2021

THE KERRISDALE COMMUNITY CENTRE OPERATIONS UPDATE

The impacts of Covid-19 over the last year have posed challenges to the Kerrisdale Community Centre Society and to the community centre.  Our efforts to increase the number and variety of programs available to our patrons has been hampered by increasing numbers of Covid cases in BC and by the ever-tightening restrictions that have resulted.  As the number of Covid cases in BC is increasing, the centre must continue to operate under a very strict Covid safety plan.   The Board of Directors and community centre staff have worked hard to rise to these challenges – this spring the Society offers a selection of both in-person and online programming.

IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING

Indoor programming in the fall and winter was well received.  Registrations were running at approximately 50% of allowed capacity under the centre’s strict Covid safety plan.

For spring 2021, the centre is optimistically offering some 160 programs to accommodate the needs of children, youth, adults and seniors.  Our Spring Programs brochure is now available digitally on the KCC website, detailing the programs, instructors, and related registration costs.

Of particular interest to many patrons are the pool and exercise rooms.

  • The pool is open for swimming lengths and public swimming on a limited basis. Preregistration is required (see details below).
  • The exercise rooms were open for personal training during the fall and winter.  Mid-winter the rooms were opened to allow individual access on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.   Occupancy is limited and preregistration by phone (604-257-8100) or through the Park Board’s ActiveNet registration website is required [search for: Kerrisdale CC Ex Rm]

ONLINE PROGRAMMING

As Covid restrictions tightened through the fall and winter the popularity of our new, online artistic and recreational programs has grown steadily.  The Society will continue to offer these programs and our Spring 2021 Brochure is available digitally on the KCC website.

More than 70 programs for adults and children are offered online by many of Kerrisdale’s favorite instructors. To see what programs are available online visit our website under Programs & Registration.

AGM

On February 17, 2021 the Kerrisdale Community Centre Society held its 78th Annual General Meeting, via Zoom.  More than 30 Directors, staff and community members attended.  The audited financial statements for the 2019-2020 fiscal year were approved and the election of Society directors was completed.  Eight Directors were newly elected (half of the Society directors are elected each year).  These directors along with other incumbents sit on the KCCS Board of Directors and, with the help of centre staff, are responsible for the delivery of all programs and services offered by the centre.

On behalf of the Kerrisdale Community Centre Society, I invite you to check out the array of in-person programs or to sign up for a wide selection of online programs that are offered.

Sincerely,

Kathy McKay, President
Kerrisdale Community Centre Society
