He has a master’s degree in computer science, and he’s worked as an Apple software engineer and UBC quality assurance team lead. Yet Nikhil Naidu’s career highlight stems from one small but moving moment while he was teaching.
As director of Wize Computing Academy (Vancouver, Richmond and Burnaby), Naidu fondly recalls when one of his students created their very first game from scratch.
“It was a simple project, but the pride they felt and the excitement they had in sharing it with the class was unforgettable,” says Naidu. “That moment really reinforced why I love teaching – seeing students gain confidence in their abilities is such a rewarding experience.”
Teaching children and preteens at the Kerrisdale Community Centre for almost a year now, Naidu says his goal is to provide an environment where students feel supported and inspired to learn while also having fun.
“They have such natural curiosity and creativity, and it’s exciting to help them channel that into learning new skills. It’s rewarding to see them gain confidence as they create something they’re proud of, whether it’s a game, a program, an algorithm to command robots or a digital project. I love how technology can empower them to think critically and problem-solve,” says Naidu, adding that teaching gives him the opportunity to inspire and encourage the next generation.
Growing up in Nagpur, India, and now living in New Westminster, Naidu enjoys hiking, yoga and cooking in his spare time. He also loves to travel with friends and family to explore new places like Sydney, Australia (photo, below).
