As a shy child, Jessica Wampler discovered the power and magic of music.
“I found through music I was able to express myself in ways I was too shy to do in my daily life,” says Wampler. “I felt the magic that music can bring, whether singing alone at home or finding the courage to somehow perform in front of a live audience.”
Today, the West Side Music Together teacher helps babies and children up to five years old discover their own inner music maker and the joy of making music with their families. An instructor at the Kerrisdale Community Centre for two years, Wampler loves seeing “families connect through music and grow together as a community by singing and dancing together each week.”
Graduating from Grant MacEwan University’s Musical Theatre Program in 2003, Wampler has since performed in numerous musicals – A Chorus Line is her favourite – and as a backup vocalist for an Elvis impersonator at the PNE Fair. She’s also taught musical drama camps and performed as a storyteller at children’s festivals.
Watching her own daughter’s excitement and growth at Music Together classes, Wampler was so impressed she became a registered teacher herself for the research-based children’s program. “Experiencing Music Together first as a mother has enriched my own teachings, which I bring to class every week.”
When she’s not teaching music, Wampler likes to hike in the mountains, attend yoga classes and, naturally, sing and dance in the living room with her daughter.
