Instructor Q&A: Jonathan Brian Tanuwijaya

On the heels of introducing new personal trainer KJ Johal last month, we’re pleased to profile another new KCC trainer – Jonathan Brian Tanuwijaya. Growing up in Indonesia, he now lives near Kerrisdale and looks forward to helping clients build fitness habits they can carry into everyday life.

Q: What is your favourite thing about being a personal trainer?
A: I enjoy seeing clients realize they are stronger and more capable than they thought, not just physically but mentally as well.

Q: What do you want clients to take away from your training?
A: More than just a good workout. I want them to leave each session feeling welcome, stronger, more confident and more motivated to take care of themselves.

Q: What most inspired you to pursue personal training in the first place?
A: My experience working as a caregiver. I used to help with basic exercises and movement, and that made me realize how important exercise is for health, independence and quality of life.

Q: What is your top career highlight?
A: Turning my passion for helping people into a profession. Coming from a caregiving background and now helping clients through fitness has been a meaningful step in my career.

Q: What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?
A: Staying active by going to Brazilian jiu-jitsu class or boxing.

Q: What’s your go-to comfort food?
A: Ramen.
