It all goes back to the likes of The Terminator and Superman. Indeed, when asked what first prompted him to pursue a career in personal fitness training, Ed Fong replies: “Too many muscle-flexing action movies and superhero comic books.”
While he still appreciates the aesthetic benefits of being fit, Fong encourages his clients to look at the health benefits as the overarching guiding factor. “I want fitness hopefuls to have a balanced, healthy view on the cosmetic effects versus the health benefits of fitness.”
Though he specializes in seniors fitness, Fong’s clients have ranged from teens to centenarians. Working at the Kerrisdale Community Centre (KCC) since 2009, he enjoys seeing his passion for health and fitness help others improve their well-being. “I love seeing my clients discover just how capable they really are,” says Fong, who has a Bachelor of Kinesiology from UBC and is a BCRPA-registered personal trainer.
Among his many career memories so far, Fong fondly recalls a KCC patron who trained with him from the age of 97 until she passed away just before her 103rd birthday. “I was amazed at how much she could do and how much I had to offer.”
