Barbara Eveline Burman was a career elementary school teacher, avid gardener and Kerrisdale Community Centre patron. She was also a generous donator to causes close to her heart, which ranged from children’s health and education to the underprivileged and seniors. The only child of English immigrants Joe and Dorothy Burman, Eveline (the name she went by) was born and raised in Kerrisdale. Single throughout her life, she would go on to live alone in her childhood home on Cypress St. well into her later years. Upon retirement, Eveline kept tending to her meticulous home garden while enjoying the occasional cruise. Some time later Eveline began attending the Seniors Lunch Program at the Kerrisdale Seniors Centre, where she found companionship and happiness among her tablemates. Her generous spirit shining as always, she also donated funds towards the purchase of a seniors day trip bus. Moving into senior living at Crofton Manor in 2015, Eveline passed away on March 18, 2023, at the age of 97. But not before leaving a sizeable donation to the Seniors Lunch Program in her will. To honour Eveline’s wishes, the Kerrisdale Community Centre Society has established the Eveline Burman Kitchen Legacy Fund. Overseen by the Kitchen Management Committee, the fund will be used solely for the Seniors Lunch Program in the way of furniture, equipment and repairs. The society remains ever grateful for Eveline’s generous and heartfelt donation. |
