Kerrisdale Welcoming West Boulevard Pathway Project

Kerrisdale Welcoming West Boulevard Pathway Project

This project came out of a desire from the community to enhance the front entrance green areas and pathways of the building to make it more accessible and welcoming. This project was supported by the Vancouver Park Boards Neighbourhood Matching Fund, the Kerrisdale Community Centre Society, Park Board Operations and generous community donations.

Artist Natalie Purschwitz from the Elm Park Fieldhouse project led workshops for the creation of The Birds of Vancouver installation. Community members made 250 bird decals that were installed on the windows in the entrance area to help prevent bird collisions. Natalie also worked with over 25 youth to create bird houses in the Tudor-style design which represented the heritage homes that were once built in the Vancouver’s west side.

The hope is to bring a sense of community enrichment into public green spaces, strengthen overall community connectedness, and create spaces where people can gather and animate those places in different ways.

Elm Park Fieldhouse is host to Experiments in Living, a project designed to question our surroundings and better understand the things we take for granted in our daily lives. Through a series of dynamic collaborations with artists, community members, recreation centres, and local businesses we hope to re-imagine objects and activities found within a typical home. These projects are generously supported by the Vancouver Park Board’s Field House Activation Program which provides project space and access to parks to foster community-engaged activity that focuses: arts, culture, sport, environment, local food and social encounters.
