President’s Report to the Membership – Winter 2017
For many of us, the new year is a time when we make commitments to ourselves about improving our health, increasing physical activity or venturing into a new area of learning. At Kerrisdale, our team of dedicated Park Board staff and community volunteers work together to bring you programs designed to meet our community’s needs. In this brochure you’ll find an outstanding array of new programs as well as your long-time favourites. You’re sure to find something that appeals to you and the other members of your family.
2016 Volunteer of the Year
The Board of Directors has selected Dave Anthony to be Kerrisdale Community Centre’s Volunteer of the Year. Since January of 2013, Dave, a long time Kerrisdale resident, has been providing pickleball classes 2 or 3 times each week for a growing number of keen pickleball players of all ages and ability levels. Some of the players went on with Dave to win medals at the BC Senior Games. Pickleball is a relatively new sport that is suitable for all ages and ability levels and is a great addition to the Kerrisdale Community Centre.
Thanks from all of us Dave!
Artist in Residence Project in the Arena
Rocking and rolling through November 2016 to June 2017, artists Lisa g Nielsen and Rene Cherrie will fuse sound and image as they explore the storied history of the Cyclone Taylor (Kerrisdale) Arena from its opening in 1949 to the present. Community members are invited to collaborate with stories, vision, music, art and more to create an immersive video and sound installation within the Arena itself. Find Rene and Lisa creating real-time in the Arena’s ‘living room’ or in their mobile projection/sound studio at other locations in the community.
